The occult uses evil spirits (demons) as an alternative to God in one or more of the following:
By their own testimonies witches, neo-pagans, Wiccans, Satanists, and New Age adherents, without exception, attempt use occult methods to get knowledge or power. In addition, they seek to make contact (have fellowship) with evil entities. God forbids seeking to get knowledge or power, and He forbids yielding to these evil entities and fellowshipping with them. In contrast, God desires that we seek His face with all our heart, soul, and mind. God desires that we exercise gifts of the Spirit of God and that we manifest the fruit of the Spirit of God; that is that He does His work through us.
Actively promoted and glamorized through much of fictional writing (including the Harry Potter series), movies, TV dramas, university courses, etc.

Occult religions are willingly ignorant of the totally lost condition of all human beings, the inability of human beings to do good works, and the one Holy Creator God's great gift of giving His one and only way of salvation through acceptance of the atoning work of His one, unique Son, Jesus Christ. As a result of this willing ignorance, followers of these religions miss all the benefits of holiness, righteousness, peace, glory, love, and joy that can only be found through Jesus. The sad result of their rebellion against God is that those who follow this course choose hell rather than heaven.
