How can I discern between the Holy Spirit and my own mind?

John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

We must begin to know the difference between that which comes from Jesus and that which comes from our own mind or some other source. We require discernment between Jesus and our own mind.  We humans are complex beings, and science has done little but confuse, since they have gone into speculations beyond their ability to observe.

As we obey, our senses are heightened.  As we read the Word, if we ask the Holy Spirit to minister to us, lay down our soul-life of theologies and ideas and ego, and listen to the voice of God, we become more sensitive.  As we spend time with our Savior praying in tongues and with the understanding, just standing in His presence and seeking His face, we begin to have discernment.

When we disobey or neglect the gifts that God has given, then our senses are dulled, they can become seared as with a hot iron.  Spending time with the wrong kinds of music or the wrong friends will do this.  Being exposed to the wrong spirits can do this, as with video games, violent and godless shows, and even our own evil thoughts.  When God shows us more about His holy order in our homes, in our churches, or in any part of our lives, we need to pay attention or we can sear our conscience by ignoring the Holy Spirit and His direction.

If you seek God, you will find Him through His Son, Jesus.

Revelations 22:19 And if anyone takes away from the Words of the Book of this prophecy, God will take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which have been written in this Book.

John 10:35b the Scripture cannot be broken,

Human theology and reasoning is not necessarily correct, but the Bible is. The Bible can only be understood by revelation, and revelation is given by the Spirit of God. God does reveal in His own way. But we only know in part. If we think we know any thing, we do not know it as we ought. We are instructed, by God, to keep seeking Him. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. The truth sets us free. Lies bind us. Whoever seeks Jesus does find Him. Jesus is the truth.

We believe the Holy Scriptures teach:
  • The 5 apostolic ministries (Ephesians 4:11)
  • The nine gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8-10)
  • Local congregations overseen by elders and deacons (Titus 1:5)
  • Every member having and being a ministry in the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:11)
  • Being led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14)
  • The gathering together of the Body of Christ (Genesis 49:10, John 17:21)
