Aren't most people basically good?
Many Scriptures warn us not to trust the human mind, but some people still do and reap a curse.
. . . and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring (indicates idolatry, and that is exactly what it is): The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 53:1
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Romans 1:19
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.
