From very early on, there were those of the Pagan world who sought to infiltrate the church.  God’s people Israel had previously experienced attacks from Pagans that were largely successful.

• Pagans who joined the church and tried to modify the church through persuasion from within the church
• Pagans in the Roman government who tried to modify the church through coercion from outside the church
