How can I understand my spirit, soul, and body?In the current human condition, these things are difficult to understand. God does understand perfectly, and the Bible gives a great deal of light on this subject. As you walk into a deeper relationship with Jesus, you will understand more. We have a body, a soul (breath), and a spirit (current of air) as mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, but this doesn't really clear up the difference between the three very well. The word, in the Bible, that is translated as "mind" is often translated as "soul" or "mind." Soul is literally a breathing creature. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit understands all of this and the anointed Word of God is able to discern between such things. The Holy Spirit is able to discern between soul and spirit. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. God is looking for those who will submit to Him, not by coercion but by choice. The Bible also teaches predestination, but it is predestination based on foreknowledge. Whom He foreknew, He did also predestine to be conformed to the image of His Son. Romans 8:29-30 A good portion of the letter to the Romans deals with the fact that the flesh fights against God, but we have control over our will to submit our thoughts to the Spirit rather than the flesh. The Bible can only be understood by revelation, and revelation is given by the Spirit of God. God does reveal in His own way. But we only know in part. If we think we know any thing, we do not know it as we ought. We are instructed, by God, to keep seeking Him. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. The truth sets us free. Lies bind us. Whoever seeks Jesus does find Him. Jesus is the truth.
