v. 2 Author & Finisher

Hebrews 12:2 Looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Faith begins and ends with Jesus.  Jesus is everything in between.  When we try to add something of our own to the faith of God, we come up with something that is powerless.  We frustrate the faith that comes by hearing, that is by hearing the utterance of God.  God asks us to look to Jesus at all times.  We are to keep our eyes on Him.  When we look at our brother or sister, it is easy to see the flesh, but we are to see the Christ who is living in them.  When we are tempted, all we have to do is look away to Jesus.  When we need a word from God, it is available from Jesus.  Look to Him, because He is the originator of your faith.

This is very different from rationalized faith.  A Secularist only has rationalized faith.  An occultist has a devilish faith that is faith in demons.  Christians have a faith that is a spiritual substance of things hoped for.  it comes from God.  Jesus is the author of every bit of it.  We humans can't add anything to it.
