Doesn't the Bible say that some of those alive at Jesus' time would not see death until they saw His Kingdom and His coming in glory? |
If you have not read Stories Versus Truth, you may want to read that before reading this. Don't forget where you are going. You get past the questions/attacks so you can proclaim the Gospel. It is the proclamation of the Gospel, not argumentation, that transforms minds. See Give Them the Gospel. A Supposed Error by JesusJesus said that there were some who would not taste of death until they have seen Jesus' coming in His Kingdom and His Kingdom coming with power. Some may say that this proves that there is an error in the Bible. The answer to this is very simple. Peter, James, and John were eye witnesses to Jesus coming in His Kingdom just six days later. You can see, also, that much of our theology regarding the coming of Christ must be brought prayerfully before the Lord with an open heart so that He can help us to free ourselves from the traditions of men. There is obviously a difference between His coming and His returning. The nature of His coming is quite different from many of the traditional theologies. Examine the following accounts and you will see that this is true. Now, we are looking forward to a similar experience that is also predicted for the Church. The coming that is spoken of here is very closely related to the transfiguration, and that experience is what God has given to the church. That is why the Bible tells us that we are transfigured from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord. Mark 9:1 & 2 And he said to them, Verily I say to you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured [metamorphoo] before them. Matthew 16:28-17:2 Verily I say to you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured [metamorphoo] before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. Luke 9:27-31 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. 2 Peter 1:16-18 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
