| water/Spirit v.5 |
|
This verse is often used to support the various doctrines that claim that you are only born again when you are baptized in water. However, the Scripture doesn't say that in the original language. John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say to you, Except a man be born of water/Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Note that in this same letter, the Holy Spirit, through John's writing, tells us that Jesus told the people that out of their innermost being shall flow rivers of living water, and then the Holy Spirit tells us that He was speaking of the Holy Spirit. Water is a type of the Holy Spirit. You cannot be born again without the Holy Spirit, but Scripture tells us that all who believe are born again and have the Holy Spirit. However, some are satisfied with the sprinkling and don't want to be fully immersed in the Holy Spirit. There are deeper depths and higher heights to go into. Even some of those who have been baptized in the Holy Spirit seem to think that they now have everything, but there is much more to walk into in Christ Jesus.
