1 And He again began to teach by the sea side, and a great crowd gathered to Him, so He entered into a ship and sat in the sea, and everyone in the crowd was close to the sea on the land. 2 And He taught them many things by parables and said to them, in His doctrine, 3 "Listen! Look! A sower went out to sow. 4 As he sowed, some seed fell by the way side, and the birds of the air came and ate it up. 5 And some fell on stony ground where it didn't have much earth, and it sprang up immediately because it had no depth of earth. 6 But when the Sun was up, it was scorched. And, because it had no root, it withered away. 7 And some fell into thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it gave no fruit. 8 And other fell into good ground and yielded fruit that sprang up and increased and bore fruit, some 30, and some 60, and some 100." 9 And He said to them, Whoever has ears to hear, hear and consider what was said." 10 And when He was alone, those who were about Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. 11 And He said to them, "To you it is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God, but all these things appear in parables to those who are outside 12 So that seeing they may see but not know what they see, and hearing they may hear and not be able to put it together in their minds, or else they would return to God, and their sins would be sent away from them." 13 And He said to them, "Don't you understand this parable? Then how will you understand all parables? 14 The sower sows the utterance. 15 And these are the ones by the way side where the utterance is sown, but when they have heard it, Satan comes immediately and takes away the utterance that was sown in their innermost minds. 16 And likewise these are those who are sown on stony ground: who, when they have heard the utterance, immediately receive it with gladness, 17 but have no root in themselves and so endure temporarily. Afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the utterance's sake, they immediately stumble and fall away. 18 And these are those who are sown into thorns: such as hear the utterance 19 and the cares of this age and the deceitfulness of riches and the desire for other forbidden things come in, completely choking the utterance, and it becomes unfruitful. 20 And these are those who are sown on good ground: such as hear the utterance and receive it and bear fruit, some 30, some 60, and some 100." 21 And He said to them, "Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel or under a bed--and not to be set on a candlestick? 22 For there is nothing hidden that shall not be visible, neither was anything kept secret but that it should come into the open. 23 Whoever has ears to hear, hear and understand." 24 And He said to them, "Mentally discern what you hear; with whatever measuring device you measure out it shall be measured out to you, and to you who hear, more shall be given. 25 For whoever has, to that person shall be given, and whoever doesn't have, even that which the person has shall be taken from that person." 26 And He said, The Kingdom of God is as if someone threw seed into the ground, 27 and slept and woke up night and day, and the seed budded and grew up, he doesn't know how, 28 for the earth bears fruit without help, first the green blade, then the ear of corn, after that the completed corn in the ear. 29 But when the fruit is given, he immediately puts in the sickle because the harvest has come." 30 And He said, "What shall we compare the Kingdom of God to? Or with what sort of comparison shall we compare it? 31 It's like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is smaller than all the seeds that are in the Earth: 32 But when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs and shoots out great branches so that the birds of the air may dwell under the shadow of it." 33 And with many parables of this sort He spoke the utterance to them as they were able to hear and comprehend it. 34 But He didn't speak to them without a parable, and, when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples. 35 And the same day, when the evening had come, He said to them, "Let us pass over to the other side." 36 And when they had sent away the crowd, they took Him, since He was in the ship. And there were also other little ships with Him. 37 And a great wind storm arose, and the waves rushed into the ship so that it was now full. 38 And He was in the back part of the ship, asleep on a pillow, and they woke Him and said to Him, "Master, don't You care that we're dying?" 39 And He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Peace, be still." And the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 And He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no supernatural belief and trust?" 41 And they were in great reverence and said one to another, "What is this that even the wind and the sea obey Him?"
