Matthew 17:1-5 Some Will Not Taste Death Till They See The Kingdom--Jesus Was Transfigured Before Them. |
Matthew 16:28-17:5 Truly I say to you that there are some standing here who shall not taste of death until they see the Son of man coming in His Kingdom. . . . And after six days Jesus takes Peter, James, and John his brother and brings them up into a high mountain away from everyone and was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the Sun, and His clothing was white as the light. And, look, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with Him. Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You will, let us make three tabernacles here, one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah. While he yet spoke, look, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and, look, a Voice out of the cloud, Which said, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; hear Him. Jesus told them that some of them would not see death until they saw the Kingdom, and these three did see the Son of man coming in His Kingdom on the mount of transfiguration. This transfiguration is the true Feast of Tabernacles, and it is the destiny of those who believe in Jesus. Peter later wrote about this experience in 2 Peter 1:16. He said, "we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming [literal: abiding presence] of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 2 Peter 1:16-18 we made known to you the Power and Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received honour and glory from God the Father, when there came such a Voice to Him from the excellent glory, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased." And we heard this Voice Which came from Heaven when we were with Him in the holy mountain. Mark 9:1-7 And He said to them, "Truly I say to you that there are some of those who stand here who will not taste of death until they have seen the Kingdom of God come with power. And after six days Jesus took Peter, and James, and John with Him and led them up into a high mountain apart by themselves, and He was transfigured [metamorphoo] before them. And His clothing became shining, exceedingly white as snow, whiter than any professional cleaner could make them. And Elijah with Moses appeared to them, and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter said to Jesus, "Teacher, it is good for us to be here, and let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah, for he didn't know what to say because they were terrified. And there was a cloud that overshadowed them, and a Voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son; hear Him."
