In the New Age Book, The Structure of Magic, Presupposition is studied as a powerful method in the way the human beings decieve themselves.  There are ways that we say things to ourselves that bring us into bondage to lies using presuppositions.  It may start as a propostion that says, "Just supposing that Naturalism were true.  Then, what would we expect to see?"  This goes on to become a presupposition, an assumption that is taken to be true simply because the fact that it is an assumption is forgotten.  The next phase is very interesting.  The presupposition is inserted into our thoughts and our speech using assumptive language, or not even using any language at all because we have forgotten that it is not part of reality.  A worldview or paradigm is developed in the mind.  We all have paradigms, and they can develop quickly.  The work of the Holy Spirit is to destroy our paradigm and build us up in the Truth.  They are difficult to get rid of, since they seem like reality.  A person with a paradigm that includes Naturalism, for instance, dismisses all evidence of miracles, God's power, God's presence, God's leading, guiding, and speaking to His people.  There is no effort involved, since the evidence conflicts with what the person thinks is reality.  A person like this says, "Naturalism is self-evident."  "No one ever is led by God."  "God doesn't speak to people and people who think that God speaks to them are crazy."  By the way, insanity is the failure to deal with reality.  By this definition, everyone who accepts his or her own paradigm as reality is a bit insane.  They cannot deal with reality. What do you say if they reject Christ and just want to argue?

You and I are guilty of having somewhat of a Naturalistic paradigm.  This is the world in our heart/mind.  This is the fleshly nature, all the lies that Satan have fed to us.  It keeps us from seeing what God would love to show us.  The entire Christian walk is one of destroying the strongholds of our own paradigms and allowing God to reveal reality to us.  The Bible is a book through which God speaks to us to describe reality as it really is and to help us to overcome our paradigms.  Often, theologies can become limiting paradigms that prevent God from taking us any further in Christ.  Our walk is one of learning to hear God's Voice, the Voice of the Great Shepherd, and to respond in reverence, obedience, and submission.  Jesus said, "My sheep hear My Voice."  "Today, if you hear His Voice, don't harden your heart/mind."  Remember that Scripture says that whatever is not of faith is sin, and it also says that faith comes by hearing the Word of God, or literally the Utterance of God.  Much of Scripture is devoted to telling us that God speaks and leads us and that our responsibility is to hear His Voice and respond to the flow of His Holy Spirit in righteousness as He does His works through us.  "If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."  1 Peter 4:11  If we aren't speaking in this way, we ought not to open our mouths.

Consider how often the lie that there are errors in the Bible is crafted into speech of the ungodly.

Here is a kind of a humorous example:

"I've read where God had a wife in one older version of the bible and she got eliminated in a newer version. I guess they must have forgot to edit it."

Note the way that the word, forgot, presupposes the word, edit.  This is an example of assumptive language.  Of course, the implication is that the Bible was put together in the way that a novel or a text book is put together.  It presupposes a dismissal of the truth: God breathed the words through His holy prophets.  This is a fact that we know for certain since God has revealed it to us in the same way God has always revealed.  Read How Can We Know Anything.

Another way that presupposition is used is in teaching about the early history of the universe, a teacher will say, "Billions of years ago, when... "  The presupposition is that the billions of years took place.  Since every naturalistic method of trying to determine the age of the universe or the earth or old things on the earth is based on circular reasoning, presupposition of this type is highly dishonest and unethical.  Note that this presupposition cascades into the presupposition that the history found in the Bible is incorrect.

A Public Television special on Saint John made a statement about John on the Isle of Patmos that contained a huge lie in the form of a presupposition.  The voice-over made a remark about "when John was developing his theologies."  The presupposition tells the plain lie that John did not receive the revelation from God but rather exercised his own mind to pull the Book of Revelation from conjecture and creativity.  However, it does it using assumptive language, so you aren't as likely to challenge it and it is more likely to become part of your blinding paradigm.
