Romans 2:8 But to them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

It is possible to contend with God. God speaks truth into our souls, and we ought not to argue with Him. Sometimes He speaks through our conscience. Sometimes He speaks to a child through the parent. Sometimes He speaks through Scripture as it's read. Sometimes He brings Scripture to our memory. Sometimes He speaks through an elder or deacon in the church. He speaks through prophecy in the church or through a song in the Spirit. He speaks through His creation all the time. In all of this, God never contends with Himself. There is no confusion in God's message to us. There is only confusion when we contend with God. There is confusion when we listen to the world. There is contention when we listen to the devil. There is confusion when we listen to our own desires.
