Many Christians have lost their way and no longer have faith because of speculations regarding the age of the Earth. Since faith comes by hearing God speak, faith is destroyed by giving ear to sources other than God and those speaking by the Spirit of God. 

“You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute [incapable of articulate speech] idols, however you were led. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:2-3)

The ungodly speculations usually put death before sin, eliminate the world-wide flood and replace it with millions of years, and eliminate the creation and replace it with billions of years.  If death is before sin, then sin does not cause death. If sin does not cause death, that destroys the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  These are all specultions.  All estimates of the age of the Earth are based on circular reasoning.  There is no way to avoid the circular reasoning when speaking of the age of the Earth except by divine revelation. While we ought not to declare a universal negative, we do know what is plainly written in Scripture. We know that in six days God created the Heavens and the Earth and everything in them. We know that it was Adam's sin that brought death. We know the number of generations between Adam and Christ. That's all we need to know. We don't know about what God has not revealed, and we ought not to speculate about it either.

In any case, the age of the Earth is not a factor because of the second law of thermodynamics, which is the law of entropy. It states that things do not evolve, they de-volve. The odds against evolution are impossibly great and time just makes those odds even greater because of the second law of thermodynamics. Just suppose, for a moment, the earth were even a trillion years old. There are many flaws in evolution, but suppose for a moment that the only flaw in evolutionism were the programming of DNA. If that were the case, the statistical odds of DNA being programmed would be one chance in 10 with 400,000 zeros behind it minus a trillion, which would give us odds of one chance in 10 with 399,991 zeros behind it. Try to write that number on a lottery ticket. This number is so large that writing it would create a book and would require about forty hours of typing. Let the evolutionists play around with their dating game all they like; even a trillion years on a trillion earths is not a significant number of years and earths to affect the odds against evolution.

The Evolutionists will tell you a half truth about the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The Evolutionists will tell the half truth: "The Second Law of Thermodynamics only applies to isolated systems, so it's not relevant to evolution, because the Earth is an open system." This is a clever lie. Here is the part of the truth that they are withholding: the Second Law of Thermodynamics was derived using theoretical isolated systems, but it applies to all systems, and can only be overcome locally and temporarily in open systems when stringent conditions are met. Not only that, but we are not talking about the Earth. The Earth is just a subsystem of a much larger system called the Universe. The Universe is an isolated system. Evolutionists claim that Evolution took place in this isolated system, but the Second Law of Thermodynamics tells us that their story is a myth.
