Which religion thinks that it's validity rests on proving the age of the earth?
Anyone who is going to be an evolutionist should realize that he or she is reaching for a religious, not scientific goal. Evolution isn't science. Evolution and the old-earth story are both vital to one religion. That religion is a Secularistic denomination called Humanism. The Humanist religion claims to be, or alternately claims not to be, a religion. It exercises this chameleon-like ability to change from non-religion to religion depending on what will best serve its agenda. It's not that an old earth would really help the sad fairy tale of evolution upon which Humanism rests. The possibility of an old earth is merely the basis for a bit of loopy logic that is used to confuse people into thinking that evolution could be possible. In reality, the old earth does not make evolution possible; it's only a ploy to confuse people.
