Which religion thinks that it's validity rests on proving the age of the Earth?

Religion Depends On an Old Earth

Many Christians have lost their faith because of speculations regarding the age of the earth. These speculations usually put death before sin, eliminate the world-wide flood and replace it with millions of years, and eliminate the creation and replace it with billions of years. If death is before sin, then sin does not cause death. If sin does not cause death, that destroys the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Science does not have the capacity to prove either a young or an old Earth. Both positions use the same scientific facts to come to very different conclusions based on either presupposition or direct revelation. Some would say it this way: the differences are in the beliefs, and those beliefs are based either in presuppositions or in revelation. God speaks to us through Scripture. He tells us (in the Ten Commandments) that He created the Heavens and the Earth and everything in them in six days. He tells us, through the genealogies, that there are about 6,000 years between Adam and the Twentieth Century. Yet, there may be something that He didn't reveal. All the ways that are used to try to squeeze billions of years into the Bible do violence to the Scripture. Some put death before sin, which makes the Bible inconsistent with itself. Some commit the fallacy of proving too much. The fallacy of proving too much, if applied to tactics like the day-age theory or the gap theory, would allow the same kinds of misuse of language with the rest of the Bible. It would prove too much, since no part of the Bible could be taken to mean anything. In fact, theologians are using this very method to eliminate all commandments against any kind of sexual sin (and other sins as well). It still cannot be ruled out that God may not have told us everything. Perhaps there is something that God hasn't hinted at in Scripture and that God hasn't revealed through science. Of course, entertaining such a thought is a lot like worrying about the "little man upon the stair" who isn't there.

The problem here is one of speculation. God forbids speculation. Think about the difference between dogmatic speculation and a lie. There is no difference. A lie is an abomination. Job's counselors said many wise-sounding things, but God said that they had spoken things about Him that were not true. It makes no difference whether the speculations are made about the Bible, the Creation, or both, they are lies. And many speculations are made about the Bible. Many speculations are also made about Creation. God reveals to us what we need to know. Speculation just causes division. Since many have speculated that the Creation we see around us is in conflict with the Bible, scientists who believe the Bible to be true have created models, and the purpose of these models is to show possible ways that the Creation could be explained by the Bible. These are models and are not to be taken dogmatically. Any projection about the age of the Earth that goes beyond what the Bible specifically says are speculations. In fact, all of the scientific ways of guessing the age of the Earth or the Universe are not scientific at all but are based on circular reasoning. That means that to give any strong weight to them is to believe a made-up story, a lie. In the same way, the many stories of Evolution are made-up stories. They are not scientific and they conflict with the clear teachings of Scripture. They are speculations. God forbids speculation.

Ungodly people hold on tightly to simple-minded assumptions. These assumptions act as filters and a way to censor out any information that supports the existence of God. Ungodly people set up a web of rules to filter out God. They will only accept those things that conform to Naturalism, materialism, and uniformitarianism. Naturalism claims that God does nothing. Materialism claims that there is no God or spiritual realm. Uniformitarianism claims that there was not creation and that there was no violent worldwide flood, as the Bible and numerous other historical accounts record. Whatever they observe that does not conform to this complex filter is censored. The way that it is censored can take several forms. The ungodly may boldly proclaim that, though the data appears to support God's version and refute the version of the ungodly, yet it still must be interpreted to mean just the opposite of what it does mean. A backup method that ungodly people use is to prophecy that in the future, science will be able to explain what they see as an anomaly. If that fails, they will hide the data, set it aside, or lie to keep the public from knowing the truth. The data clearly demolishes the story of the ungodly and clearly supports the reality of the Creator God, His Bible, and His abiding Presence in His people. When confronted with the obvious, a closed-minded ungodly person says, "I can't understand it." They are willingly ignorant because they refuse to hold God in their knowledge. The reality is that these people, for whatever reason, don't what to know the Creator. They don't want to truly know Jesus, their Creator.

What about evolution? Isn't it science? "When evolution is seen as a storytelling game rather than a serious attempt at scientific explanation, it suddenly makes sense." - See more at: http://crev.info/2013/11/evolutionary-stories/

Anyone who is going to be an evolutionist should realize that he or she is reaching for a religious, not scientific goal. Evolution isn't science. A person claiming to be an Evolutionist should consider whether or not they are actually just deiphobes. Evolution and the old-earth story are both vital to one religion. That religion is a Secularist denomination called Humanism. The Humanist religion claims to be, or alternately claims not to be, a religion. It exercises this chameleon-like ability to change from non-religion to religion depending on what will best serve its agenda. It's not that an old earth would really help the sad fairy tale of evolution upon which Humanism rests. The possibility of an old earth is merely the basis for a bit of loopy logic that is used to confuse people into thinking that evolution could be possible. In reality, the old earth does not make evolution possible; it's only a ploy to confuse people.

There is no way to use Science to determine the age of the Earth because the reasoning always goes circular. We can't observe the past and the passing of time from then until now. While this is true, there are many factors that make the idea of an Earth that is billions of years old absurd. Isn't it odd that scientists who are otherwise competent still insist that the Earth is billions of years old?

Why So Emotional About the Age of the Earth?

A strongly held belief in Evolutionism is usually the motivator for those who insist that the Earth is very old. Science does not give any convincing evidence for an old Earth. On the contrary, the observations of science indicate a relatively young Earth. When it comes to the notion of Evolutionism, one of the most reliable laws of science, the Second Law of Thermodynamics, cannot co-exist with Evolutionistic thinking. The two are mutually exclusive.
