v12-14 Problems Today

Jeremiah 2:12-14 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.  For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.  Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

The prophet points out a major problem in the church today.  The Spirit speaks directly to us on this issue.  Here is a church that has committed two evils just like the Israelites did.  These people no longer want God to directly flow in them.  They don't want the living water that Jesus offered to the woman at the well.  This is running water.  This is the water Jesus referred to when He said, "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." This is also the same water of which Jesus spoke when He said, "He that believes on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." This is the Holy Spirit. Be astonished. There are Christians who don't want Him. They reject Him and they try hew our cisterns, but their cisterns are broken. They try to survive spiritually with doctrines that are processed and developed by trying to analyze the Bible using the human mind.
