It's a cliche, yet how untrue: all things are relative. This is just not true. It would be more accurate to say that our knowledge of all things is only relatively complete, but that's not the doctrine of the Relativist. Relativists insist on the logical error known as a universal negative, a haughty attitude that implies that the Relativist is all knowing. Relativists insist that there is absolutely nothing that is absolute. How could a person make such a statement with a straight face? Relativism says there can be no absolute doctrine, principle or standard. Of course, that means that relativism violates its own premise, because Relativism is an absolute doctrine, principle, and standard. Absolutism says there can be an absolute doctrine, principle or standard. Relativism is the one concept that has been taught most effectively and consistently by government-run schools. Johnny may not be able to read or write, but he will be brainwashed into thinking that there are no absolutes. Unfortunately, relativism is also being taught in many church-run schools. Many church groups have included relativism as part of their dogma.
How can we know anything about anything? That’s the real question |
