Hebrews 3:13 You Can be Hardened by the Deceitfulness of Sin

Hebrews 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Untruth and sin are closely related. Satan lies, we believe him, and we obey him by sinning. That is the nature of sin. Truth and righteousness are closely related. God speaks the Truth to us, we receive it, faith comes into our heart and opens the door to God's grace so the grace of God can do the work of God through us. When we are deceived by a lie from Satan, we sin and the sin hardens our hearts. This is what Jesus was referring to when he told the parable of the sower. There is the path where the good seed of God is trampled under foot by every wind of doctrine and deceit. Then, there is the stony ground that has been hardened by the sins of the past. There is also the thorny ground that represents the life taken up with all the cares of this age and the deceitfulness of riches--all lies of Satan.
