For This He Came |
FOR THIS HE CAME
by Ethel Wylie In the fullness of time God sent His Son, To a world that was bound in sin. As a babe He came, wrapped in human flesh, But the doors were all closed to Him. While heaven bent low with an eager eye To watch o'er it's choicest gem; While angels sang of His praise and worth, Earth found no room for Him. But He came with a message of love and life, Brought down from the Father's throne, And human flesh was clothed with power, That to man had never been known. The sick were healed, the dead were raised, The lepers cleansed - set free. God's Kingdom truths were preached to men, But men refused to see. "Oh no, they cried, "His deeds of power Are surely not of God. His words blaspheme, for He has said, 'I am the Son of God.' His home, His family we have seen And human flesh is He; No, God would never dwell in such- A sinner He must be." But He came to do the Father's will, And His face was set to the goal. 'Til He gave His life on the cross of shame To save man's dying soul. He died, He rose, He conquered death Then ascended up on high, But ere He left He spoke to men Of a life that shall never die. To the faithful ones who received His word He promised God's Spirit would come, And works of power and mighty signs Through them would again be done. "For though I go to my Father," He said, "And the world shall see me no more, My Father and I shall come and abide, In each heart with an open door." And again He comes in human flesh With a message of life and power. The sick are healed, the blind eyes see, But the earth knows not her hour. Again she stumbles on human flesh Nor sees the Christ within. Her door is still closed in unbelief, But the humble bid Him in. And He enters the hearts with the open door To set up His Kingdom within; And the plan and purpose of God moves on Towards a new day soon to begin. When the groanings of saints and creation are heard And God shall reveal His sons, The Christ - His Church, complete in power, 'Tis for this the Christ has come. ![]()
