So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.  King James Version

It literally means, Faith comes by hearing and hearing by utterance of God. 

Many read the Bible, but not all who read the Bible are willing to hear a word from God. 

Some people close their spiritual ears to God and listen, instead, to the ramblings of their own minds. 

Some believe that God is; they believe that God exists, and they also believe that all who seek God will find Him. Hebrews 11:6  Those who believe these two things will expect to hear from God and they will hear from God.  God will speak to them through the Bible and many other ways.  When God speaks, He never contradicts the Bible.
