- Puritan movement resulted in two great movements: the Congregationalists and the Baptists.
- "Enlightenment" writers question Christianity and seek to base knowledge on human reason, reason that turned out to be based on rationalized supposition with enough scientific observation to give some level of credibility in the minds of the people. In many ways, the enlightenment became a religion in its own right.
- There was plenty of emphasis on doctrine, but it became dead letter. Not enough emphasis was given on the Spirit of God, Who makes the doctrine come alive.
