As you read Proverbs, chapters 1-9, notice that wisdom is being compared to one woman and foolishness is compared to a very different kind of woman. Proverbs 1:9 For they shall be an ornament of grace to thy head, and chains about thy neck. The ornament of grace to the head is a reference to the mind. Grace is much more than forgiveness. It is unmerited favor and grace has power of righteousness or, in this case, righteous thinking. This is the wisdom which is from above spoken of by James. Proverbs 1:20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: God speaks to every person. Jesus is the light Who lights every person. Some people listen, but many do not. Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain to wise counsels: Many promises are given in the remainder of chapter 1. Proverbs 5:6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them. Proverbs 7:25 Let not thine heart [mind] decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. Like so much of Scripture, God speaks to each person's need. There is much more in these chapters than instruction about yielding to the mind of God. There is certainly much about chastity and its importance. The Holy Spirit speaks whenever the Scripture is read, but the question is this: do we listen?
How can we know anything about anything? That’s the real question |
