v25 The church restored |
Joel 2:25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. In the centuries after God formed it, the church lost much of what God originally gave, but God is now restoring. The first things that were lost were the gifts of the Spirit, given by the laying on of hands of the presbytery. They lost the order of elders and deacons in the local church and replaced it with a new definition of those offices. The office of bishop, which used to be another name for elder, became the chief elder. They started paying the bishop a salary. Then, it was decided that the bishop had to be celibate. Eventually, very few were filled with the Spirit of God and very few new the way of salvation. Men started buying high offices in the church. The traveling elder/apostle in Rome won a political battle and was declared chief apostle, something that was never a part of the church that Jesus died for. What was left of the church became a stench in God's nostrils. Much has been restored, and there is more to be restored.
