The world is trying to conform you into its mold, to bring you into conformity with all of it's ideas and sin. God is asking you to yield yourself to the Spirit. Notice that the renewing of your mind is in the passive voice. It's not something that you can do. Only the Holy Spirit can do it. You must allow it, though. God will not force Himself on an unbeliever, and He will not force Himself on a Christian. We have not scratched the surface of what God has for us, but we need to begin to submit to God's goodness so that He can bless us. Then, we will begin to show forth the real fruit of the Spirit. We will prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect (complete and mature) will of God.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed [literally, Transfigured] by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

This is the same word that is used to describe Jesus being transfigured on the mount of transfiguration.
