Controlling Self Through God’s Spirit
Controlling Self through God’s Spirit is an alternative to the self cult. The Biblical term, Temperance, in the original language, is tied to the control of the self. The self is not in control but must kept under the control of the Spirit. The self cannot control the self. The Holy Spirit must be given the control. Coming close to God is what controls the self. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (self control). 2 Timothy 1:7 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:23 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Titus 1:6 Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8 WEB And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 2 Peter 1:6 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. Titus 2:2 And as he (Apostle Paul) reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee. Acts 24:25 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety (self-restraint). 1 Timothy 2:15 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant (self-controlled), sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 1 Timothy 3:2 These facts, then, being unquestioned, it becomes you to maintain your self-control and not act recklessly. Acts He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
