Self Christianity--Self Becomes GodListed below are some of the theologies of the Self Cult. Self Fulfillment Self Esteem Self Worth Self Actualization Self Improvement
Self Esteem and Self Worth This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 2 Timothy 3:1&2 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Philippians 2:3 He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread. Proverbs 12:9 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. Romans 7:18
Self-Image For I say, through the grace given to me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Romans 12:3
Self-Confidence But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. James <"" />4:16 KJV But, as the case stands, it is in mere self-confidence that you boast: all such boasting is evil. James 4:16 Weymouth
Self-Actualization Love is patient and kind. Love knows neither envy nor jealousy. Love is not forward and self-assertive, nor boastful and conceited. 1 Corinthians 13:4 Weymouth While as to Israel he says, "All day long I have stretched out My arms to a self-willed and fault-finding people." Romans 10:21 Weymouth wherever there is a man of blameless life, true to his one wife, having children who are themselves believers and are free from every reproach of profligacy or of stubborn self-will. Titus 1:6 Weymouth O my soul, come not thou into their secret; to their assembly, mine honor, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their self-will they digged down a wall. Genesis 49:6 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. John 5:30 The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks. Jeremiah 29:26 The wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceful, courteous, not self-willed, full of compassion and kind actions, free from favouritism and from all insincerity. James 3:17 Weymouth Self-Indulgence Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. James 5:5 These rules have indeed an appearance of wisdom where self-imposed worship exists, and an affectation of humility and an ascetic severity. But not one of them is of any value in combating the indulgence of our lower natures. Colossians 2:23 Weymouth "Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you wash clean the outside of the cup or dish, while within they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Matthew 23:25 Weymouth But she that liveth in pleasure (self-indulgence) is dead while she liveth. 1 Timothy 5:6
Self Seeking But to them that are contentious (self-seeking), and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Romans 2:8 KJV but to those who are self-seeking, and don't obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath and indignation, Romans 2:8 WEB while on the other hand upon the self-willed who disobey the truth and obey unrighteousness will fall anger and fury, affliction and awful distress, Romans 2:8 Weymouth Let us not be desirous of vain glory (self-glory), provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:26 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27
Because the self cult is so deceptive, you may find it in many churches in some form of self-improvement. In fact, one formula for building a big church is to eliminate the unpopular message of the Bible, that message that tells us that we are sinners in need of repentance. Once we get rid of that message, then all we need to do is to learn to love ourselves and learn about our own human potential. Of course, the pastor of such a church will be responsible for the souls of all the people who have been deceived by the pastor's false "gospel."
