Bible Dictionary Definition of liberal:

The word, liberal, as used in the Bible is far from the liberalism as it is used in English in today's society. The word has three different meanings in the Bible depending on which Hebrew or Greek word it is translated from.  The word, liberal, is only used in four verses in the KJV Bible as seen in the examples below.

1. blessing
2. willing
3. generous out of one's own possessions
4. singleness, simplicity, sincerity, mental honesty
5. the virtue of one who is free from pretense and hypocrisy
6. not self seeking, openness of heart manifesting itself by generosity
