v 5-8 Double Minded |
James 1:5-8 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
To ask for wisdom is to ask to be led of the Spirit of God. If a person asks insincerely, they second-guess God's wisdom. They second-guess the leading of the Spirit of God. They try to mix raw human reasoning (the reasoning of the human mind without the Intelligence of the Creator flowing through the human mind) with the Holy Spirit's interpretation of Scripture.Maybe they don't like what God says.Maybe they just have a bad habit of leaning on their own understanding.Maybe they think that their own mind is basically good and don't believe what Scripture says about the human mind.Whatever the reason, they mix the filthy output of their own mind with the mind of Christ, and they have nothing of the mind of Christ at that point.
Pray for wisdom.God will lead.Just don't add in a dose of your own mind: for that would be to doubt the wisdom of God.
