Matthew 7:19-23 By Their Fruits You Will Know Them

Matthew 7:19-23 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.   Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The working of miracles is not the sign.  The sign is this: obedience to Jesus. The natural mind is very slippery and deceitful. Many will say that they are seeking God's will, but they already know God's will, don't like it, and are looking for a "different God's will." They contend with God. Perhaps we are all guilty of this from time to time, but we dare not continue down this path because it is the path away from God.

"I never knew you"  Literally: At no time did I ever know you as a friend.  Know here seems to indicate a depth of knowledge as a husband is intimate with his wife.

"depart from me, ye that work iniquity."  So many in the make-believe church want to set up precepts and orders that are nothing like the orders of God.  Some of the orders are fair copies, but God was not the one who initiated them.  They do not allow the Holy Spirit to lead.  They are run by committees not unlike the committees of corporations.  Some are run by tyrants or groups of tyrants.  Some bring glory to a person or a group of persons or to the organization itself.  All of these are iniquity.

There are so-called "worship" services that are merely entertainments.  Skilled speakers are lifted up and exalted by the people.  Singers and players of instruments are showcased.  They may be saying, "Give all the glory to Jesus," but anyone can see who is getting the glory.  It is not Jesus.  This is also iniquity.

There are organizations that bring huge amounts of money to individuals.  There was a man who remarked to a local elder in a local church, "You're doing it all wrong.  You can make a lot of money.  This also is iniquity.

The one-man pastor exists nowhere in Scripture.  Neither does the woman pastor.  Democratic government exists nowhere.  Entertainment churches cannot be found.  Divisions are forbidden, but the very word, denomination, means division.  A preeminent elder pastoring a local church is condemned in Scripture, yet that is one of the man-made patterns that is followed and defended.  Independent churches don't exist in Scripture.  They are all under the government of the traveling elders, the apostles.

Scripture is twisted to make Timothy and Titus into local "pastors."  Anyone who reads the letters to Timothy and Titus can see that they were traveling deacons, apostles, under the direction of Paul the traveling elder/apostle.  Some theologians try to make Paul and Peter into local "pastors" when they were both traveling elders/apostles.
