Habergeon


Definition of Habergeon

Two Hebrew words are translated as habergeon in the King James Version.  In Exodus, the word, tachara, is used twice.  Tachara is a piece of armor for the top part of the body.  In Job, the word, shiryown, is used.  This word can mean body armor or a weapon such as a lance, a spear, a javelin.

08473 ארחת tachara' takh-ar-aw'
1) corselet, which is a piece of armour for the top part of the body

Exodus 28:32 And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon <08473>, that it be not rent.
Exodus 39:23 And there was an hole in the midst of the robe, as the hole of an habergeon <08473>, with a band round about the hole, that it should not rend.

 

08302 ןוירשׁ shiryown shir-yone' or ןירשׁ shiryon shir-yone' and ןירשׁ shiryan shir-yawn' also (fem.) הירשׁ shiryah shir-yaw' and הנירשׁ shiryonah shir-yo-naw'
1) body armour
2) a weapon
2a) perhaps a lance, javelin

Job 41:26 The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon <08302>.
