| Do absolutes exist or is everything relative? |
|
Relativists claim that there are no absolutes. They would have to know everything about everything to make that a valid claim. They are claiming to have examined everything material and non-material everywhere in every way at every time--and now they know. Those who make the boastful claim: "There are no absolutes," are claiming to know everything about everything. Only a complete fool would make such a statement as to say, "There are no absolutes."
The Bible is very clear that we do not know everything about anything, but it is just as clear that we do know some things about some things. 1Corinthians 8:2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.1Co 13:9-12 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. We know some things absolutely, but not completely. We must always look to Jesus for further revelation. We must spend time in His presence and seek His Face that He may lead and guide us. We must hold on loosely to our theories and hold on tightly to the King of kings. One thing is sure, God is the God of the absolute. His Word is yea and amen.
How can we know anything about anything? That’s the real question |
