But I have a mind and I'm supposed to use it, don't you think?

The real question is, "Who do you trust--Do you trust your own understanding or do you trust God?"

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed [literally, Transfigured] by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Notice that it does not say to be transformed by the removal of your mind.

... but how does the renewal of your mind work?

First, you will notice the "the renewal of your mind" is in the passive voice. That means that someone else, God, is doing it. You cannot renew your mind. You only have the capacity to deceive yourself. Through self-effort, you have the capacity for hypocrisy only. God is the renewer of the mind. You need the Holy Spirit for this work. Don't be deceived. Don't let anyone else deceive you. Turn to God.

The human mind was never created to function without the anointing of the Holy Ghost. The human spirit was never meant to be separated from the Holy Ghost. The human mind was created to be in submission to the human spirit, which was created to be in submission to the Holy Ghost.

Heed The Warning Of Scripture Regarding Putting Your Trust In The Human Mind.

... and that ye seek not after your own mind and your own ability to observe, with which you used to commit fornication: Numbers 15:39

The real question is, "Who do you trust--Do you trust your own understanding or do you trust God?"

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it to them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Romans 1:19

Romans 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has showed it to them. 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: You see? You know because God has showed it to you and to all of us.
Trust in the LORD with all your mind and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8
For out of the mind come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Matthew 15:19
The fool hath said in his mind, There is no God. Psalm 53:1

Total Quality Management uses the word paradigm. Our paradigm is an image of the world and is the world (fake reality) with which we interact rather than the real world. Communication theory speaks of filters. When we hear anything, we filter it by our presuppositions. Neurolinguistics uses the word, presuppositions. Another way to put this is that we each have a worldview. Presuppositions are ideas that we don't even think about but that reside in our minds. They make it impossible for us to see reality. Others speak of confirmation bias, which is the same thing. When we see things that are in conflict with our paradigms/presuppositions/worldview/confirmation bias/filters, we cannot receive it. We switch it around to fit whatever is already in our mind, and it actually confirms rather than conflicts. Too many conflicts can make us physically sick. We have various ways of protecting ourselves from the truth.

"What you see is not what is out there in the world, not exactly, at least. Scientists have shown that your brain is tweaking the light coming in from your eyes and making predictions about what you expect to see.... The way PhysOrg put it, What our eyes can't see, the brain fills in. And it fills it in from prior experience: The results show that our brains do not rely solely on what is shown to the eyes in order to see. Instead the brain constructs a complex prediction of what it expects to see." creationsafaris.com

" New Scientist posted an intriguing article on the many ways our eyes fool us. Our brain is filling in information and predicting the future for us, reporter Graham Lawton pointed out, producing in us a 'grand delusion' that we see what is really there. Speaking of cosmology (Hawking's specialty), Live Science reminded us that cosmologists are still looking for 96% of an assumed universe about which they are clueless. It would seem premature for Hawking to rule out heaven when the reality he believes in is mostly hidden even if he could trust his senses. There might be much more in heaven and earth than is dreamt of in his philosophy (Naturalism)." CreationEvolution

Ungodly people are forced to hold on tightly to some basic presuppositions.  These presuppositions are just simple-minded assumptions.  They are filters and a way to censor out any information that supports the existence of God.  They set up a web of rules to filter out God.  They will only accept those things that conform to Naturalism, materialism, and uniformitarianism.  Naturalism claims that God does nothing.  Materialism claims that there is no God or spiritual realm.  Uniformitarianism claims that there was not creation and that there was no violent worldwide flood, as the Bible and numerous other historical accounts record.  Whatever they observe that does not conform to this complex filter is censored.  The way that it is censored can take several forms.  The ungodly may boldly proclaim that, though the data appears to support God's version and refute the version of the ungodly, yet it still must be interpreted to mean just the opposite of what it does mean.  A backup method that ungodly people use is to prophecy that in the future, science will be able to explain what they see as an anomaly.  If that fails, they will hide the data, set it aside, or lie to keep the public from knowing the truth.  The data clearly demolishes the story of the ungodly and clearly supports the reality of the Creator God, His Bible, and His abiding Presence in His people.  When confronted with the obvious, a closed-minded ungodly person says, "I can't understand it."  They are willingly ignorant because they refuse to hold God in their knowledge.  The reality is that these people, for whatever reason, don't what to know the Creator.  They don't want to truly know Jesus, their Creator.
