Appeal to IntuitionAppeal to intuition is one of the many smokescreens that are used to cover the fact that the reasoning is based on one of the three fallacies of Agrippa's trilemma. Whenever a logical fallacy is committed, the fallacy has its roots in Agrippa's trilemma. All human thought (without Divine revelation) is based on one of three unhappy possibilities. These three possibilities are infinite regression, circular reasoning, or axiomatic thinking. This problem is known as Agrippa's trilemma. Some have claimed that only logic and math can be known without Divine revelation; however, that is not true. There is no reason to trust either logic or math without Divine revelation. Science is also limited to the pragmatic because of the weakness on human reasoning, which is known as Agrippa's trilemma. The Appeal to Intuition Fallacy occurs when intuition is the only reason for believing something that is either true or false. Intuition is one of the human senses and is not to be ignored. However, it must be checked using other sources of knowledge. Feelings, intuitions, reasonings, and observations can be tricked. The human mind can be easily deceived. Only by acknowledging the leading of the Holy Spirit moment by moment can we move toward understanding. The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the intuition, but there are other things that can speak to us through the intuition. God has built into the Scriptural order of the Church, a system of checks and balances to prevent wild errors. It is also a fallacy to write off intuition a priori. To say that the intuition is not helpful is an assertion contrary to fact. Examples of the Appeal to Intuition Fallacy
Evolution is not obvous or intuitive. It is counter-intuitive. It defies logic. Yet, that is not adequate reason to disbelieve the doctrine or Big-Bang-Billions-of-Years-No-Flood-Molecules-to-Man. The reason to disbelieve this fantastic story is that God says that He created the Heavens and the Earth and everything in them in six days.
