Italian authorities' domestic wiretaps picked up phone conversations by Algerian Yamine Bouhrama that discussed terrorist attacks in Italy and abroad. Italian authorities announced, in January of 2006, that they had used wiretaps to uncover the conspiracy to conduct a series of major attacks inside the U.S. The goal of these planned terrorist attacks was to exceed the devastation caused by 9/11.
Though these wiretaps and the proposed attacks were freely aired in the international press, U.S. press organizations didn't report on these happenings. It appears that there were political motives, since the U.S. press in very liberal.
