Matthew 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon to Christ are fourteen generations.

Starting at verse 2, we have Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judas, Phares and Zara of Thamar, Esrom, Aram, Aminadab, Naasson, Salmon, Booz, Obed, Jesse, David the king.  That is fourteen generations.

Solomon, Roboam, Abia, Asa, Josaphat, Joram, Ozias, Joatham, Achaz, Ezekias, Manasses, Amon, Josias, Jechonias and his brethren about the time they were carried away to Babylon.  That is fourteen generations,  

Salathiel, Zorobabel, Abiud, Eliakim, Azor, Sadoc, Achim, Eliud, Eleazar, Matthan, Jacob, Joseph the husband of Mary, Jesus who is called Christ.  That is only thirteen generations.  Some people have suggested that Matthew, the tax collector was not good at arithmetic.  That's a thought.  I would suggest that God is saying something.  So what is God saying?  There is another generation--a chosen generation.

Psalm 22:30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
