| Understanding Grace |
|
Grace is the Greek word, charis, meaning free gift or unmerited favor. Mercy is another thing. Forgiveness is given as grace. Grace is given because God is merciful. It is charis that does the works. The word, charis, is used to refer to the Holy Spirit. There is no true grace that can be available from any source other than God. I'm certain that Satan would counterfeit grace as he counterfeits every other blessing. God's rain falls upon the just and the unjust. That God is good to us is not an indication that we deserve his free gift. In fact, the word, charis, has the connotation that the gift is given in spite of us. It is, after all, unmerited favor. When grace comes, we have a choice as to whether or not we will receive His free gift. It is possible to have a great amount of feeling without having the Holy Spirit flowing if we are resisting the flow of the Anointing Oil of God or trying to drag the Holy Spirit into disorder or sinfulness. It is possible to have a great flowing of the Holy Spirit without any feeling at all. In general, though, when the Holy Spirit flows, there is feeling.
