Basics of Christian Science Back to Top |
- Unlike Biblical Christianity, Christ Scientists serve a god who is an impersonal universal presence. This is the god of forces prophesied in Daniel. Some other cults also worship this god.
- They don't believe in Jesus Christ for salvation. They don't believe that Jesus is God or Christ. They don't believe that they need salvation from sin.
- Christian Scientists believe that every person is divine and need only discover his or her own divinity.
- Mary Baker Eddy taught that the problem is in the illusion that matter is real. She taught that matter, sin, evil, sickness, & death are not real.
- Christian Scientists don't believe in Heaven as taught in the Bible, but they believe in a divine state of Mind in which all the manifestations of Mind are harmonious and immortal.

Christianity is based on Jesus Christ, the Living Christ, Who reveals Himself to the Christian on an ongoing basis. Believer's have the supernatural trust that is a gift from God. By this trust, we see Jesus and hear His Voice. It is Jesus Himself who reveals to us that the Bible is His Word, His Utterance. And it is Jesus Himself Who speaks to us through His Word. Jesus speaks to us through many different means: Scripture, intuition, bringing Scripture to our remembrance, apostles, prophets, etc. When God speaks to us, faith comes and with faith comes a vision of hope. This vision shows us who we are in Christ in an ever-more-clear understanding. When God speaks, He instructs us what to think, what to say, and what to do. Then, He does the work through us by His grace, His free gift of righteousness. This righteousness of God in us is the moving of the Holy Spirit that transfigures us from glory to glory to be like Jesus, killing our fleshly nature and causing Christ to be more fully formed in us. And this death to self, to the old adamic sin nature, and building up of Christ is the very thing that redeems us, sets us free from slavery to the fleshly nature, to Satan, to the pressures of the world, and to death. Christian science is based on the ideas of one misguided person who ended up putting forth visions out of her own mind. (some caveats about hearing God's Voice)
In contrast to Christian Science, followers of Christ receive Jesus Christ as the only Creator of the Universe, the God Who created them and their only Savior from bondage to sin. At the same time His love for those who have been deceived by Christian Science compels God to speak to them daily through His creation and through other means; they will not listen to Him.
Jesus is real. Christians experience Him. He does miracles in their lives. Any true Christian can tell of many such experiences. Jesus is God, one of three persons in the Godhead. Christians are humble enough to admit that they need a Savior. Jesus paid the price for every person and all who will may come. The first step is forgiveness of sin. From there, God has a magnificent plan of righteousness, holiness, and redemption, spirit, soul, and body.
While human beings were created to be joined to God in the same way that Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in Jesus, yet human beings are not gods. We are created beings with a destiny to be conformed to the image of Jesus. This is much better than being independent gods.
The relationship with God is one of submission from our side. We yield. God does His works through us. God says His words through us. God thinks His thought through us. "Come, let us reason together, says the Lord."
Some Christians have, either on purpose or by just drifting, inserted parts of Christian Science into their walk with Jesus. They tried to make it compatible with Christ. The little changes, however, caused these followers of Christ to stop following Christ and instead they began following Christian Science.
God's plan for this hour is not to make all religions and philosophies get along. His plan is to have a people, a remnant company, who continue to discover Him, to walk with Him until they come into perfect unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God to one totally complete man (the Body of Christ and the Head, Jesus), to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
You know that you were created for more than you are experiencing. If you continue to think like you always thought, you will continue to get what you always got. Is it enough? Read more. Read even more.
