New Age Religion is not the same thing as the New Age Movement. The New Age Movement involves unity in diversity among many non-Christian groups. It is a loose-knit networking system. The New Age Religion is a religion. The two are different, yet they are related.

The New Age Religion adopts Christian language but redefines the terms.

Astrology; mysticism; use of crystals; yoga; tarot readings; holistic medicine; psychic abilities; angelic communications; channeling; amulets; fortune-telling

To the New Ager, god is everything; everything is god, an impersonal life force that pervades all things.           

New Age teaches a different jesus from the Biblical Jesus whom Christians serve.         

Teaching that the rainbow is the astral bridge to Satan.

Much of the lure of the New Age is that most of the Christians in the church are living a life that is devoid of power.  Few Christians ever come close to making use of the power and authority that God puts into their hands.  Some Christian organizations actually preach against using the power of God for righteousness, healing, divine direction, protection, etc.

Pantheism-all is god.          

The new age religion teaches a god, the Ultimate Reality, that is an impersonal power.

Among New Agers, their god is often spoken of as energy, consciousness, mind, or truth.

To the New Ager, god is everything; everything is god, an impersonal life force that pervades all things.  

A different Jesus: The new age religion teaches a jesus who was one of many appearances of their god of forces throughout the ages.   They teach that their version of jesus was one of many people who were fully aware of their true divinity.

The new age religion teaches a Christ that is separate from their version of jesus.   Like many religions, the new age religion says that their jesus was the way-shower.

The new age religion christ is the perfect god idea and the awareness of divinity within each person.  

A different Jesus: The new age religion does not teach the saving power of Jesus.   They don't teach a Jesus who is the unique Son of God the Father, one person of the Trinity.   They don't believe in salvation.

Authority: Non-Biblical, Relativistic

The new age religion recognizes no objective source of authority

Sacred writings & devotional material from many traditions are seen as having spiritual value.

The new age religion teaches humanity as not distinct from God.

They say that human beings are essentially divine and that god is within each person.

They teach that everyone has the "Christ spirit and that everyone is potentially good.

The new age religion teaches that the problem is illusion, ignorance, or lack of perception.   The new age religion teaches that people are divine, but need to become aware of their divinity, that they are one with the New Age god of forces.

The new age religion says that people need to be "enlightened, " to find ultimate spiritual knowledge & liberation from the cycle of reincarnation.

The new age religion teaches that the primary human need is for holism, to be integrated with the whole.

The new age religion assumes that the root causes of evil are selfish living habits and ignorance.

No Salvation by grace through faith in Christ: The new age religion teaches that people need to overcome lack of perception by using techniques to change (transform) consciousness.

Many trance states are used, including hypnosis.

  New Agers attempt to attain enlightenment by stepping outside ordinary modes of perception and experimenting with altered states of consciousness that dispel illusory boundaries of individual existence.

Much of this is related to demon possession or obsession, but uses New Age terms such as meditation, neurolinguistics, or autogenics.    

New Agers hope for the dawning of a New Age of heightened consciousness and international peace. Individuals can obtain a foretaste of the New Age through spiritual transformation ("Ascension").

Relativistic Ethics and Morals

No moral absolutes.

The new age religion teach individual self-rule as the norm and that each person should follow his or her own intuition.

The new age religion assumes that the root causes of evil are selfish living habits.

The new age religion teaches the non-Scriptural belief that souls are evolving toward union with god & will eventually find spiritual knowledge & liberation from the cycle of rebirth.

Evolutionism is a part of the New Age religion.
