Make believe can be found in books, movies, etc. Make believe mimics the genuine, true faith that flows from God. True faith is a supernatural belief and trust of God that comes by hearing the word/utterance of God. True faith is a gift from God. It is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. In make-believe, we are told that if we believe in magic or some magic person, then the magic will become effective. There are even songs about believing in magic. When we believe, we give some sort of power to the magic person. Can you identify stories such as this? Some of these stories even play off of Christian holidays. These stories about make believe will dilute the true faith. They bring doubts because they mimic the real and make the genuine seem trite and childish. Often, people become very protective of these make believe stories. There is often a lot of emotion wrapped up along with these stories. The songs can be fun and entertaining. The movies are often very well done. And these stories often have a powerful ability to draw people into the experience, perhaps because of the spirits involved. In addition to this, there are many other instances of false, make-believe, faith. Some Christians try to muster up human faith to believe for miracles and such and then wonder why God doesn't do the miracle. The reason they don't see God's power is because they are using make-believe faith. There are also many theories and theologies that are make-believe. Atheism, Naturalism, Materialism, Uniformitarianism, Evolutionism, and many theologies that go to extra-biblical speculation are also make-believe. ![]()
