The Human Goodness Cult

Wisdom, Righteousness, Holiness, and Redemption

How can we know anything about anything

To try to explain truth to him who loves it not is but to give him more plentiful material for misinterpretation. George Macdonald

Do we have to make a choice between science and the Bible?

NO!

That is NOT where the problem is, but that is what everyone seems to want to talk about.

Take science as an example. How can we know anything about the created material world around us?

How can we know anything from what we can see using natural sciences?

We all see the same things in the material world, but we don't come to the same answers.

Why is that?

How can we know anything about the Bible and what it teaches? Every person believes different things about the Bible and how it should be read.

Why is that?

Same scientific facts. Different answers.

Same Bible. Different answers.

Why is that?

The true question is this: How do we come to our answers that we get from what we can see through science or what we can read in the Bible?

How do we think about what we see using science or what we read in the Bible?

How do we analyze what we have seen and read?

How do we interpret what we have seen and read?

We use logic, but logic always has a foundation. Jesus talked about building on the Rock. That Rock is Jesus Christ. He is the true foundation. There are also the false foundations of the ungodly.

An example might help.

Question: Why do believe in evolution?

Answer: Because my science teacher told me that evolution is scientific fact.

Question: Why do you believe your science teacher?

Answer: because he agrees with the textbook he assigned us to read.

Now, we have asked, "Why?" twice.

If we continued to ask, "Why?" we would come down to the foundation of this person's thoughts.

When we get down to the foundations, there are no more questions that can be answered. So where to the foundations come from?

There are three possibilities.

  1. things that we make up, pulled from the air
  2. demonic lies
  3. divine revelation

Question: Why do believe in creation?

Answer: Because God revealed this to me. He spoke to me through the Bible and gave me His faith so that I could believe Him.

See how quickly we got to the foundation. This is a belief that has a foundation that is solid and that cannot be moved.

In reality, the things that we make up, that are pulled from the air, are actually from demons and all the lies of demons spring from the prince of demons, Satan. So these are one and the same.

Divine revelation comes from the Almighty, Creator, God, Jesus Christ. So there are only two choices, but how do we know there are only two choices? Because God has revealed this truth to us.

The question then is how do we tell the difference between the revelation that comes from God and the lies of Satan?

The answer is that everyone who sincerely wants to do the will of God will know.

Jesus said, "If you really want to obey God, you will know if what I teach comes from God or from me"

The rejection of the revelation that comes from God is not an intellectual problem. It is a moral problem.

Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it shall be opened. *

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to those who ask him? Matthew 7:7-11 *

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. You can set the truth before someone, but you can't make anyone believe those things that they don't want to submit to. They have to want to obey God.

How frequently it is brought to our attention that nothing good can be done if the will is wrong! Reason alone fails to justify itself. Richard M. Weaver

Jesus said, "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32)

"If we are not prepared to buy the truth at the cost of our own humbling we shall not receive it"

Lies appear to have no price upon them. They seem cheap and they abound everywhere. But for the truth there is always an obvious price to pay.

[God] has set a day when He will judge all the world's people with fairness. And He has chosen the man Jesus to do the judging for Him. God has given proof of this to all of us by raising Jesus from death" (Acts 17:31).

"There is a judge for the one who rejects Me [Jesus] and does not accept My words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day" (John 12:48)

That also stands for every person who speaks the utterances of Jesus. When we hear them, we hear Jesus Christ, and we either accept or reject. Every person who follows Jesus Christ is commanded to only speak His utterances and not their own.

"When we love others, we know that we belong to the truth, and we feel at ease in the presence of God" (1 John 3:19)

Ravi Zacharias did two open forums in a university. On the second night, one man told him that he had brought two Atheists in the night before who said that the arguments presented were so strong that they could not contend with them, but they were going to remain Atheists because that is what they prefer to be true.

In listening to an unbeliever and drawing out his reasoning, the unbeliever finally came to his foundations.

They turned out to be assumptions that were pulled from the air. When asked why he believed his basic assumption, the unbeliever looked startled and blurted out, “I guess I’m making the whole thing up.” It was quite a revelation to him since he hadn't even known that he had any assumptions. However, he decided to remain an Atheist because he didn’t want God to rule over him.

If you Google "Human Goodness Cult," you will get this page and some information from Chris Short who writes about, "Human Service Alliance and after quite a few name changes (to include the University for Human Goodness) it is now known as the Center for Purposeful Living." You will also find a Wikipedia page about the so-called "noble savage" that says, ""... humans in a state of nature were neither good nor bad, but that they possessed a moral sense based on the emotion of sympathy, and that this emotion was the source and foundation of human goodness and benevolence." The reality is the God speaks to every person, but only a few will respond. Very few want to hold God in their knowledge. Most refuse to acknowledge Him and would rather lean on their own understanding. (If you are familiar with the Bible, you will recognize the Scriptures upon which the previous sentence is built.)

This page is addressing a mindset that can be found in almost all organizations. It is addressing a viewpoint that is in the spirit of antichrist. That viewpoint is self-righteousness and is the real difference between a cult and the church. It is not addressing any particular organization.

There are many differences between various cults and the church, but the common denominator is that cults all teach salvation by some other means than Christ alone while the church teaches salvation through Christ alone. As a result, cults tend to need a doctrine of human goodness. Any person can be affected by doctrines of cults. If you attend a self-help group, you probably have been exposed to the Human Goodness Cult theology. If you read self-help books, you probably have been exposed to the Human Goodness Cult theology. If you have attended classes at a university, you probably have been exposed to the Human Goodness Cult theology. If you have attended high school or grade school, you probably have been exposed to the Human Goodness Cult theology. If you watch TV or movies or play video games, you probably have been exposed to the Human Goodness Cult theology. If you listen to popular music, you probably have been exposed to the Human Goodness Cult theology. Every cult teaches these things and cults use all the methods listed above to teach their doctrines, while Christians, who are commanded to lead people to Christ, are usually silent or else unconsciously repeating the cult doctrines without realizing that they are doing damage to souls of others.

Have you ever heard these:

"Most people are basically good."

"Every person has a seed of goodness in them."

"All people have a good part of their heart and an evil part of their heart."

"All people have a spark of God in them."

"All people have a little bit of God in them. You just have to find that God in them."

You just have to find that spark of goodness in others.

All of these are lies.

What does the Bible say?

The Bible, speaking of God, says, "My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. (Psalms 144:2)"

Jesus said, "There is none good but God."

Paul, speaking as a Christian, says, "I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out." Romans 7:18

John 1:9 speaks of "The light that lights every man the comes into the world." If someone shines a flashlight on you, is the light in you? No. Can you ignore the light or make it have no effect on you? Yes. That is why true Atheists protect themselves from Jesus. They do not want that light shining on them.

"The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time." Genesis 6:5 Without Jesus, this is the natural state of mankind. This is what happens without Christ.

Cults console their members that they are all basically good and that they can do good and please whatever god the cult is trying to please. Truth: They cannot please God and neither can we.

What about Christ in us? Colossians 1:27 That is a change that happens to us when we accept Christ. It starts like this. The Father draws us. He shines His light on us. At first, most people reject the light. Over time, through His love, the Father draws those who will be drawn. He keeps drawing them until the day when they accept Christ as the One who will rule over their lives and deliver them from the emptiness and pain of sin. Then, their most inner being, their spirit, is joined to the Spirit of Christ. That is the new birth. However, the fleshly nature still has no good in it. The battle between the flesh and the spirit begins. Before this point, the person was totally Satan's own, living in self-righteousness.

Can you see the difference between a cult and the Christian teachings?

The Human Goodness Cult is a dangerous false religion because followers of the Human Goodness Cult don't receive Jesus Christ as the only Creator of the Universe, the God Who created them and their only Savior from bondage to sin. At the same time His love for those who have been deceived by the Human Goodness Cult compels God to speak to them daily through His creation and through other means; they will not listen to Him.

They don't believe Him when He tells them that it is in Him alone that they can find life, peace, joy, fulfillment, love, righteousness, and every other good thing. They don't believe Jesus that rejecting Him as their one and only God is the most serious sin that could be committed--the sin against the first commandment.

They don't realize that they were created to be joined to Jesus Christ, to have a continual flow of the Anointing of His Holy Spirit through them so that the Spirit will continually lead them and the Creator will do His work through them. They are blind to the fact that they were created to walk from glory to every-increasing glory by the Spirit of God. They are trapped in their own desires and tangled in the many lies that come from the father of all lies. If they did listen, God would set them free.

Instead, they are still in their sins. They attempt in vain to establish their own righteousness, a self-righteousness, and so they are unable to receive the free gift of righteousness that comes from the throne of God. If they would abandon their self-righteousness and self-dependence and believe God rather than their own understanding, and if they would stop contending against Jesus but rather accept Him and His free gift, then God would deliver them.

As a Christian, when you see anyone who has been deceived by the Human Goodness Cult, it is important to look to Jesus and let the love of God flow to them as it is shed abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost. Perhaps you will pray. Perhaps God will give you a word of wisdom or a word of knowledge. Perhaps someone will turn to Christ.

Basic Tenets of The Human Goodness Cult:

The human goodness cult, often referred to as, "Liberalism," is a dangerous cult. This anti-Bible concept of "human goodness" lies at the root of many cults. Jesus said, "There is none good but God." Scripture is very clear that there is not one righteous person. Jesus fulfilled all the law and is righteous. Human goodness is a false supposition and an attempt to do away with the need for Jesus. All organizations, religions, and philosophies that buy into the human goodness idea are cultic.

Click here for the only sure way to avoid being deceived by a cult.

What is a cult?

There is a theory founded on the natural goodness of humans. That theory, which says that natural goodness or righteousness comes from self, could be stated as self-righteousness. This is what Jesus was referring to when he called the religious leaders, "hypocrites," two thousand years ago. This human goodness idea can be found in many churches to some degree. It is the natural tendency of the human to attempt show its own supposed goodness. The old Adam in each of us seeks to show its own righteousness

The human goodness cult will not tolerate Biblical Christianity. This cult is closed to the revelation in the Bible, the authority of God, the atoning work of Christ or even the knowledge that they need a Savior. The human goodness cult doesn’t accept the righteousness that is only available in Christ and the gifts of the Spirit that are only available through Christ.

Of course, all of this runs into problems with the Bible, so the human goodness cult, in general, tries to imply that humans can add to or eliminate parts of the Bible. A favorite tactic is to try to say that there are errors in the Bible.

Since they know that they cannot obey God’s lay, they try to over turn God's law by any means.

It is the delusion of human goodness cannot be reconciled to Christ because it is anti-Christ. The reality is that, even when humanity is at its best, the fallen creature is still in the clutches of the evil one. The only real victory is through Jesus Christ.

The concept of supposed human goodness is the true and only self-righteousness, and it is a false righteousness.

The only real righteousness that can be attained is available through Jesus Christ. It is God's free gift to whomsoever will accept it. If we are good, then we don’t need Jesus. If we are good, then we can do good without Jesus. Jesus said, "Without Me, you can do nothing." If we were to claim to be good, then we would be calling Jesus a liar. How does a member of the human goodness cult attain such self-righteousness? Lower the bar. God’s law reminds us of our need for Christ, so the rebellious don't want any reference to God's Law. This is a major thrust that includes Message Control to encourage the following and more: adultery, fornication, perversion, pornography, drug addiction, entertainment addiction, envy, malice, idolatry, covetousness, stealing, disrespect to parents and authority, and destruction of the Biblical pattern for the home. Along with this goes all the legal maneuvering to eliminate the Ten Commandments from classrooms and public buildings. This is one reason that they don't think that the Bible is the inspired Word of God without error. The Bible destroys their self-righteousness and asks them to receive God's righteousness. The trouble is that they love sin more than they love God.

  • Change the bar. They make up their own morality to suit those things that they want to do. In effect, they define morality and righteousness to mean whatever they are doing at the moment.
  •
  • Eliminate the bar. Some say that everyone should do whatever they want to do.
  •
  • Make false claims of righteousness, including public relations and doing "works" just so that they can be seen.
  •
  • Deny reality by not acknowledging their own sinful natures. They proclaim their own goodness in spite of what they really know. All have fallen short.

The Bible rightly says, in many place and in many ways, that there is not a just man upon the earth. It says, very clearly, that we need Jesus. It says, very clearly, that by receiving Jesus we may receive forgiveness and also we may receive real righteousness. This is not the righteousness of the human, which would be hypocrisy, but it in the righteousness of the holy Christ living and working in the one who has received Christ. The members of the elitist class consider themselves to be above the other members of society. These are the self-righteous. They are the true hypocrites in the sense that Jesus used the word, hypocrite. They consider themselves to be "intellectuals" and love to think of themselves as the elite and good people, but they have lost the ability to reason.

    Basic Tenets of Biblical Christianity:

For a Christian who is following Christ, Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is an ongoing relationship. It is an unfolding revelation of the living Christ. Jesus is the only source of righteousness. As that Christian yields to Jesus, the Holy Spirit both leads that Christian into righteousness and also does the righteousness of God through the Christian. This leads to holiness and redemption. Salvation is a process that begins with being born again and progresses from glory to ever increasing glory. Salvation is by God's free gift and God's free gift is received through believing and receiving God. God is love, so to receive God is to receive love. Love is righteousness and the fulfillment of the law. When we yield to God, His love does His righteousness through us and fulfills all of God's law. This is always in complete harmony with the Bible, God's word. This is the way in which we are born again into the Kingdom of God. And this is the way in which we proceed from glory to glory to the manifestation of the sons of God, the redemption of our bodies, the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

This is the solution to the basic human problem.

Some Christians have, either on purpose or by just drifting, inserted parts of the human goodness cult into their walk with Jesus. They tried to make it compatible with Christ. The little changes, however, caused these followers of Christ to stop following Christ and instead they began following their own desires rather than following God.

From Scripture, we know that every person has a conscience--even the unbeliever. By repeatedly disobeying the conscience, the conscience is seared. It becomes callous and unable to discern the voice of God.

Some evolutionists and other unbelievers have a strong sense of morality and ethics. That is evidence against Evolutionism's precepts. If Evolutionism's dogma were true, then there would be no reason to have any real ethical or moral behavior. There may be a reason to fake it in order to deceive and cheat others, but there would be no reason to actually have any real inner goodness. In fact, for a real Atheist or Evolutionist, the whole idea of goodness, evil, morality, ethics, or any such notion is utter nonsense. The logical end for Atheists and Evolutionists is in Post-Modernism where there is no right or wrong, only winners and losers, and every Atheist and Evolutionist doing whatever is necessary to be winner and avoid being a loser. For an Atheist or Evolutionist to do anything else would be illogical.

Some Atheists and Evolutionists have been truly honest and logically consistent. They include Frederich Nietzshe, Adolph Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot. In addition, those Atheists and Evolutionists who support infanticide--the killing of babies up to two years old and those who support population extermination to "save the environment" are also living consistently.

Those who are born again are joined to the Vine, Jesus. The life of the Vine (Jesus) flows through them. They bear fruit. If they do not bear fruit, the Father removes them from the Vine. If they do bear fruit, the Father prunes them so that they bear more fruit.

Without Jesus, we can do nothing. We can do all things through Christ who is our strength.

Human theology and reasoning is not necessarily correct, but the Bible is without error. The Bible can only be understood by revelation, and revelation is given by the Spirit of God. God does reveal in His own way. But we only know in part. If we think we know any thing, we do not know it as we ought. We are instructed, by God, to keep seeking Him. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. The truth sets us free. Lies bind us. Whoever seeks Jesus does find Him. Jesus is the truth.
