In some cases, people are being taught that only certain parts of the Bible are valid. What is considered valid or not valid can vary widely across organizations. Some organizations want to get rid of the creation account and what the Bible says about the age of the Earth. Some want to get rid of apostles, prophets, and gifts of the Spirit. Others want to get rid of speaking in tongues. Some other want to get rid of everything the Bible says about marriage and sex. Others want to get rid of what the Bible says about integrity in business. Still others want to get rid of the parts of the Bible that tell them how to parent or how to love and respect their spouses. Some people want to get rid of all the things that say that people have choices because their theology is fatalistic. Others want to base salvation on self-effort because their theology is slanted that way. There are many other such examples.

Here is what happens when these organizations say that one part of the Bible applies and another part doesn't apply:

1. Younger people can see that if one part of the Bible is not valid the whole book is not valid. They lose their faith and walk away.
2. Every part of the pattern of Scripture that is missing or twisted has a detrimental effect. The resullt is that people are spiritually starved and longing for fulfillment.
3. Some people notice that the Scripture has been twisted and they set out to try to correct the situation in a home-church or some other perceived solution. These solutions, unfortunately, almost always have their own twistings of the patterns of Scripture.
