Contrasts God's mercy with human judgment. 2. God commands Jonah to prophesy to Nineveh--Jonah disobeys God--Jonah on the ship--the storm--Jonah thrown overboard--God prepares a great fish that swallows Jonah--Jonah prays from Sheol--God commands the fish and the fish spits Jonah out on the shore 3. Jonah prophesies to Nineveh--the people of Nineveh repent, fast, and pray 4. Jonah is angry: the reason he had disobeyed, he wanted to see the sinners suffer and not repent--God illustrates to Jonah how wrong he is.
